Cooking and living with an Italian family

LOCATION

Experience a special week or weekend cooking with Rosina and Rita in Cividale, one of the most characteristic and historical towns of Friuli, only about one-hour drive from Venice and 20 minutes from Slovenia.
Founded by Julius Caesar in 54 b.C., Cividale is truly an enchanting little gem in the region's eastern foothills, known for its famous Devil's Bridge, mysterious Celtic Hypogeum, ancient Lombard Temple as well as its lively atmosphere that you can breathe strolling around the narrow cobble stone streets leading to the enchanting Main Square. Cividale is also the capital of the Colli Orientali wine district, and therefore well known for its top wines, great food (Gubana is a delicious local speciality, a type of strudel with apples, pine seeds, raisins and grappa) and close position to the finest wine cellars of the region!

COOKING LESSONS
Depending on the number of participants, cooking classes take place either in the welcoming and equipped kitchens of Rosina's and Rita's charming home near the town center (2-4 participants) or in the spacious kitchen of a nearby beautifully restored country cottage with a nice orchard garden and splendid views over the Matajur mountain, the Natisone valleys and the enchanting countryside (5-10 participants).
All classes, limited to 8-10 participants, are hands-on and last approximately 3 hours, followed by lunch or dinner. Meals feature foods prepared during class and consist of three/four courses accompanied by local wines. Following the true Italian way of eating, all meals are prepared using fresh ingredients and what is available in season.

COOKING TEACHERS
You'll cook with Rosina and/or Rita, two delightful ladies and excellent home cooks that will teach you how to prepare typical Italian and Friulian recipes.
Rosina began cooking at the age of 15, when she started helping in the kitchen of her aunt's hotel-restaurant. Today she is very passionate about sharing the many classic Italian and traditional Friulian recipes passed down to her from her family.
Rita is a self-taught, enthusiastic home cook with formidable cooking abilities as she is able to combine fresh ingredients, simple preparation and a harmonious blending of ingredients to bring out the natural flavors of food.

ACCOMMODATION
Guests can stay at the charming B&Bs owned by the cooks, or they can choose among a wide range of other accommodations conveniently located in the town of Cividale and surrounding areas (lovely country houses, elegant apartments and antique palaces in the city center, charming villas in the town outskirts). They are all very nice and with private bathroom facilities, but be aware that they do not offer features of a hotel, such as daily maid service, room service, room safes, etc. On the other hand, all the owners live on the properties, ready to make you feel at home.
