This great day out is a perfect combination of culture and
oeno-gastronomy as it allows you to explore a land known
for its refined cuisine and prestigious wines and step back
in time to relive the fascinating history of the so-called
"Second Rome", walking through remains of ancient ruins,
precious treasures and listening
to intriguing legends. The tour starts in the morning with
a visit to the magnificent archaeological site of Aquileia
in the company of your guide who
will bring this ancient Roman metropolis alive for you.
You'll visit the forum, remains of public baths and
private houses, Roman roads with visible chariot tracks and
the ancient Basilica which hosts stunning Byzantine frescoes
and one of the largest and most spectacular early-Christian mosaic floors
of the West! Lunch in a typical agriturismo of the
area with appetizers and samplings of local delicacies.
In the afternoon you will visit a leading estate
of the Aquileia D.O.C wine area producing award winning
red and white wines. You'll meet the winemaker, share his
knowledge about the wine-making process and take a tour
of the plant and cellars before enjoying the taste of a
good vintage and eventually bring a few bottles home!
